Care and Feeding

The DarkMoon 3D build plates are built to last long and provide superb adhesion, but that also requires periodic cleaning and touch ups. See the guide below for how to properly care and feed your DarkMoon build plates.

"Cowboy" Cleaning

A cowboy clean is what my father used to call wiping your body down with a rag if you need to clean off but don't have access to a shower. You can do the same with your G10 build plate. For particularly dirty build plates, please see the Full Cleaning directions below. Follow the steps below:

  1. Remove the build plate from your printer, ensuring it has cooled to ambient room temperatures.
  2. Take a paper towel or microfiber cloth and saturate it with 70-99% isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
  3. Wipe the build plate with the IPA cloth in steady, long strokes in a single direction across the build plate. You may do this multiple times.
  4. Allow the plate to air dry.

Full Cleaning

The DarkMoon G10 Build Plate is a highly durable, robust build plate that can endure tens of thousands of hours of printing without issue. However, as time passes, the plate is likely to get dirty and accumulate grease from fingers and leftover residue from various filaments. Thus, it is sometimes necessary to fully clean it.

  1. Remove the build plate from your printer, ensuring it has cooled to ambient room temperatures.
  2. Take the plate to a sink.
  3. Wet the G10 side of the plate with warm water.
  4. Evenly spread dish soap detergent that doesn't have any additional additives like perfumes or essential oils on the G10 side of the plate.
  5. Using a clean kitchen sponge or a clean dish towel, scrub the G10 with force for one minute, allowing the detergent to foam up.
  6. Rinse the plate with hot water.
  7. Allow the plate to air dry.
